Glossy Gen Z romcom: From dream holiday ending in a chaotic family drama

Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri movie review

Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri arrives with glossy packaging, a charming lead pair and postcard-perfect visuals of Croatia. Directed by Sameer Vidwans, the film promises romance and family drama but delivers a mixed bag—delightful in its first half and then a frustratingly illogical in its second.

Ray (Kartik Aaryan) a wedding planner and Rumi’s (Ananya Panday) chance meeting at an airport leads to camaraderie during a trip to Croatia, setting the stage for flirtation amid the postcard-perfect backdrop of Croatia. The narrative shifts from breezy rom-com to tackling taboo family values and generational expectations, aiming to balance entertainment with a social message.

Kartik Aaryan is lovable as Ray, a wedding planner whose boyish charm and comic timing instantly win over the audience. He carries the breezy tone of the film with ease. Ananya Panday is ravishing, bringing freshness and glamour to Rumi, the aspiring writer. Her styling and screen presence make her a delight to watch particularly her alluring personality during the Croatian Yatch Holiday. The Croatian landscapes are visually stunning, captured like a travelogue. Sunlit beaches, cobblestone streets and vibrant cafes create a dreamy backdrop for the romance.

The breezy romance between Kartik and Ananya in the first half feels natural and engaging. Their banter and playful chemistry make the film sparkle. The beautiful holiday moments—from boat rides to festive dinners—are shot with warmth, making the first half feel like a cinematic vacation.

Loses Logic in the Second Half
Unfortunately, the film loses its footing after the interval. The narrative shifts to Gen Z characters speaking freely about their parents like Rumi mouthing ‘Mera baap toh 100 saal jiyega’ and that he won’t leave India to relocate in the US. The dialogues feel forced and unrealistic. Instead of progressive, they come across as preachy. To complicate the matters, the connect between Kartik and Ananya vanishes. Their chemistry, so breezy earlier, suddenly feels strained and disconnected.

The senseless meetings of family planners with the parents of the bride and groom drag the story into repetitive, unconvincing territory. The Ray’s mother (Neena Gupta) is over the top, her exaggerated reactions pulling the film into melodrama rather than emotional depth. An illogical track of an aunty drooling over Kartik Aaryan adds unnecessary comedy that feels misplaced and awkward. And now the most baffling subplot is Kartik becoming a cook in the girl’s house — a contrived twist that undermines his character and the film’s tone.

The soundtrack is pleasant, with bright and stunning vibrancy that complement Ray and Rumi’s holiday. But beyond the first-half charm, the visuals and even the use of old songs during the marriage ritual’s Sangeet Sandhya music cannot come to the rescue.

Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri is a tale of two halves. The first half is breezy, romantic and visually stunning, carried by Kartik’s lovable charm and Ananya’s alluring presence. The second half, however, collapses under illogical tracks, over-the-top performances, and unconvincing stance adopted by Ray (mama’s boy) and the headstrong Rumi who is stubborn of not leaving her father.

This glossy and sparking feel-good romcom loses charm in the second half trying to preach family values to Gen Z.
